Largest bridge rehab in 30 years completed in Newmarket

The Queen Street Bridge in Newmarket will reopen to traffic and pedestrians on Thursday morning following several months of rehabilitation work.

Queen Street between Main Street and Prospect Street reopened at 8 a.m. The Town says crews will continue minor work on-site over the coming months, but it is not expected to cause major traffic disruptions.

“This project is the largest bridge rehabilitation we have undertaken in more than 30 years and involved many skilled trade workers, collaboration with various partners, and extensive communication with the public,” stated Mayor John Taylor.

All final restoration work is expected to be completed by spring 2026.

Officials say the bridge rehabilitation included improvements to sidewalks and lighting, strengthened the structure for long-term durability, reduced future maintenance needs, and supports planned GO Transit expansion.
