Popular arena to remain closed until next month after interior issue

Innisfil’s Stroud Arena will remain closed until at least Feb. 22, according to town officials, due to growing concerns about an interior wall near the ice.

The town says they have noticed shifting in a structural wall located in the main lobby next to the ice pad, which led to the closure of the arena just over a month ago.

As a precaution, the arena lobby, ice pad, and banquet hall have closed.

The Stroud Branch of the Innisfil Idealab & Library and the Stroud Curling Club are not affected. Engineers have confirmed these areas are safe to use, and plans are in place to reopen them as soon as possible.

The town says all impacted people have been contacted directly, and the team is working to help find alternate options for cancelled programming.

“Crews are actively working on-site to allow engineers to complete a more detailed review,” says the town in the most recent update on social media. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

Located at 7883 Yonge St., the Stroud Arena was built in 1975, with additions in 1988 and 2000 to accommodate the needs of the community.
