Innisfil takes a crack at 900 potholes in community‑wide blitz

Innisfil is filling the cracks with a community-wide pothole blitz aimed at repairing road damage left behind by this season’s repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

The town says crews are targeting 900 pothole repairs over roughly 12 dry-weather days starting on Mon., May 4.

With warmer temperatures and asphalt plants reopening, officials say it will shift to hot mix asphalt for repairs. This asphalt creates a stronger, longer-lasting fix and can only be used in dry weather and consistent above-freezing temperatures.

“Our crews have been patching potholes with temporary materials throughout the winter whenever conditions allowed, but creating a lasting repair requires hot asphalt, dry conditions and temperatures consistently above freezing,” says Nicole Bowman, director of operations. “We know potholes are frustrating, and we appreciate the patience of our residents.

According to Monday’s release, the blitz will see nearly the entire operations workforce deployed, with roads divided into sections for stronger coverage. Municipal officials say multiple asphalt units will support crews to conquer daily repairs.

The town notes that pothole repairs are prioritized using Ontario maintenance standards, with crews responding based on road class, severity and overall safety risk.

“As work ramps up, motorists are reminded to drive with caution around crews and follow any temporary traffic controls in place,” states the town in the release.
