Innisfil man, 65, charged after excavator hits Hwy 400 bridge causing significant damage

An Innisfil man is facing charges after police say an excavator damaged a Highway 400 bridge and drove off last month.

South Simcoe police said an excavator with an oversized load struck the bridge at the Innisfil Beach Road interchange in Innisfil on Jan. 24, causing significant damage.

Structural engineers inspected the bridge and said they found concrete damage to three support beams, forcing the bridge to be closed to traffic.

Following their investigation, police charged a 65-year-old man with failing to remain, failing to report damage to highway property, and having an over-height vehicle.

The bridge has since reopened to traffic.
