There were a few more planes than normal coming and going from Lake Simcoe regional airport Thursday afternoon a day ahead of this weekend’s airshow in Barrie. Local first responders from across the region gathered on the tarmac Thursday to see up close and learn what to do in case of an emergency at this weekends air show. REALTED: Barrie Airshow flies our skies this weekend – CTVNews “They don’t want to be thinking about what to do, they need to know what to do.” says Shawn Clish a Pilot who will be in the airshow this weekend. “They need to know the seatbelt unlatches, they need to know where the fuel and the electrical shut offs are for the battery and everything,” Clish tells CTV News. “Should the unfortunate happen, an aircraft actually go into the water we know how to rescue them and use proper and safe emergency procedures” says Constable Doug Bosch with Barrie Police. Police, fire and paramedics were joined by military personal ahead of the big show. For those hoping to watch the show, there are some restrictions where they can and can not be for this weekend. Police say there will be 14 first responder boats in Kempenfelt Bay at the ready. “Before the airshow even starts we spend months in preparation,” says Thomas Vezruki Assistant Deputy Chief with Barrie Fire. “The value we get with being familiar with the aircraft before the show starts, there’s just so much benefit for all of our services providing a safe environment for everyone,” says Vezruki. The airshow is free to everyone and will run both Saturday and Sunday.
