Here are the candidates vying to represent Barrie-Innisfil

CTV’s Christian D’Avino takes a look at the candidates hoping to represent Barrie-Innisfil.

With Ontario’s provincial election one week away, candidates in Barrie-Innisfil are making their final push for why they should represent residents at Queen’s Park.

Incumbent Andrea Khanjin will hope to win the riding for the third straight time since it was first contested in 2018.

In 2022, the Progressive Conservative won the riding with more than 50 per cent of the popular vote.

New Democrat Andrew Harrigan believes he has a chance to unseat her.

The long-time child and youth worker and OSPEU/SEFPO Local 304 president was campaigning in Innisfil on Wednesday.

“I have a proven track record to fight the status quo, not afraid to do it,” Harrigan said.

Harrigan said life on under the Ford conservatives has led Ontario down a troubled path.

“It’s an absolute nightmare in some agencies right now,” he added. “We have a placement crisis for children that are actually in need of protection.”

Harrigan said health care, job protection and education are some of the top issues he hears when going door-to-door, and added that municipal issues like transportation are also key for Barrie-Innisfil residents.

“There’s no real infrastructure in this town,” he said. “To get up to Barrie where there are jobs, the youth and actually adults, there’s no way for them to get up there.”

Andrea Khanjin’s office declined an interview with CTV News. So did the Ontario Green Party’s candidate, Stephen Ciesielski. The 63-year-old Burlington native has decades of experience as an entrepreneur and is a long-time supporter of the Green Party.

Dane Lee will represent the Ontario Liberal Party in Barrie-Innisfil. Little information on Lee is listed on the party’s official candidate list website. The party did not return CTV News' request for comment.

Rounding out the list is Sam Mangiapane, representing the New Blue Party and Anna Yuryeva, who is running for the Ontario Moderate Party.
