Georgian Bay District Secondary School in hold and secure

The Simcoe County District School Board told CTV News that Georgian Bay District Secondary School in Midland was in a hold and secure on Friday afternoon at around 1:30.

A hold and secure is an emergency process that’s in place for schools that involves locking doors to protect people inside the building.

OPP said the officers cleared the area at around 2:15 p.m. and the hold and secure was lifted at 2:30 p.m.

In a post on X, police alerted the public of a heavy police presence on Hugel Avenue between Ingram Crescent and Eighth Street in Midland, adding there was no threat to public safety.

This is the second time a school in Simcoe County has been put in a hold and secure this week.

On Monday, police placed a hold and secure at Maple Ridge Secondary School in Barrie.

Police seized a handgun and arrested three teens as a result of the investigation.
