Funny money shows up in Meaford

A counterfeit $20 Canadian bill is pictured in this file image.

Police are seeking the public’s to help identify two men involved in a counterfeit money transaction.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, two men entered the Circle K store in Meaford.

When they tried to use $20 bills for purchases, a quick-acting store clerk said the bills were counterfeit and cancelled the transaction.

The two men paid for their purchase will real money.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say it is unknown whether the individuals were aware that the bills were counterfeit.

The investigation is ongoing, and officers are working to identify those involved.
