Environment Canada issues snow squall warning with 10 to 20 cm expected

Environment Canada has issued a yellow warning for snow squalls, alerting the public of heavy amounts of lake-effect snow on Sunday in the Barrie, Collingwood, and Hillsdale areas.

The weather centre said to expect heavy and blowing snow with accumulation of between 10 and 20 centimetres from Sunday morning through to the afternoon.

It said the squalls are coming from off of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay and pushing into the region, citing the main hazard is zero visibility.

Environment Canada said the strong northwest winds and blowing snow will continue throughout the day making travel hazardous, warning that one moment you might be able to see in front of you, while the next, you might not.

It said large amounts of snow could cover roads and sidewalks, making walking and driving treacherous.

Lastly, the weather centre is reminding the public to prepare for quickly changing weather.
