Construction crews return to Bayview Drive as final work gets underway

Drivers are asked to be patient as construction continues on Barrie's south artery Bayview Drive.

If you’re traveling along Bayview Drive, be prepared for some congestion again, as construction crews are set to return to complete a major road improvement project.

Contractors are scheduled to take over the area in mid-April, bringing equipment and truck traffic back to Bayview Drive between Big Bay Point Road and Little Avenue.

While officials anticipate only minor and periodic delays, the city says businesses along the corridor will continue to remain accessible during the phase.

According to the city’s Monday update, the returning team will be tackling cleanup duties and placing the final top lift of asphalt.

Bayview Drive improvements have been ongoing as part of the city’s Transportation Master Plan, which is set to accommodate growth in Barrie to 2031.

Crews have already tackled major upgrades like road widening, new infrastructure and resurfacing. Two-way traffic reopened in late July after paving and underground work were completed.

Bayview Drive now features one northbound lane, one southbound lane and a centre two-way left-turn lane.

The project also includes off-road cycle tracks, a new accessible sidewalk and new street lighting.
