Construction begins on Innisfil’s new MRI scanner housing

Construction at the Rizzardo Health and Wellness Centre begins Tuesday as the health facility prepares to welcome an Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner to its roster of medical facilities.

The town of Innisfil says once its operational, the MRI scanner allow Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre to provide 4,000 additional MRI scans each year.

For now, construction on a prefabricated modular unit will be underway outside of the Rizzardo Health & Wellness Centre building.

Once complete, the unit will house the MRI scanner and remain near the main building’s south side.

The town says Rizzardo Health & Wellness Centre should be operational as normal through the construction process. Patient, visitor and staff parking will remain fully accessible and is not expected to be impacted.

If service interruptions are required, the town says they will occur outside of a regular business hours and advanced notice will be provided.

The MAGNETOM Flow Elite MRI unit is expected to be on location by August and the facility is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year.
