If you live in Parry Sound, you might notice helicopters and rescue vessels operating on the water Tuesday, as crews conduct extensive search and rescue training exercises. According to the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), the daytime exercise near the base and surrounding waters will bring together teams from several emergency response agencies. “The public can expect to see multiple vessels and aircraft throughout the area,” said the CCG in a release. ”There is no real emergency or danger to the public." Participating partners include the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Air Force 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron, Parry Sound Emergency Medical Services and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton. The Department of National Defence says this event is designed to strengthen communication, coordination and interoperability between agencies during high-pressure rescue situations. “Training exercises help crews from different agencies maintain a high level of emergency preparedness,” emphasized the department. CTV News Barrie will provide a full look at the search and rescue exercise at 6 p.m.
