Classic fairytale turns musical adaptation hits the stage

A classic fairytale will be brought to life on stage.

Kempenfelt Community Players (KCP) is presenting the musical adaptation of Cinderella at the Georgian Theatre with the show run from Feb. 5 to 15.

Cinderella, the musical, was performed on Broadway in 2013 with songs written by Rodgers & Hammerstein, featuring new characters and plot twists.

Directed by Dani Rito, musically directed by Katie Pergau and produced by Christina Woods, KCP says audiences can expect a performance filled with a cast of characters played by local musical theatre actors, showstopping musical numbers and eye-catching costumes.

The Cinderella story centres on a young girl forced into a life of service to her evil stepmother and selfish stepsisters. Cinderella dreams of a better life for herself and with the flick of her Fairy Godmother’s wand, she gets transformed into a beautifully dressed woman who goes to a fancy ball and meets her Prince. Newly added to the musical adaptation, Cinderella is made aware of injustice in the Prince’s kingdom so she vows to help and make change.

KCP has been performing in Barrie and Simcoe County for over 40 years. It is comprised of members from all different backgrounds with a love of musical theatre. The theatre group says new members are welcome either on stage or behind the scenes.
