Car and van shenanigans leads to arrest in the Grey Highlands

Discovering a person in the garage in mid-morning on New Year’s Eve was unsettling for one Grey Bruce resident.

While police were speaking with the homeowner of the car that had had its cover ripped, a second call came in about the theft of a nearby van.

Provincial police immediately began patrolling the streets looking for the white 2013 cargo van.

They located the stolen van at Main and Scotland streets in the Grey Highlands.

As they approached the van, a man jumped out and fled on foot.

After a brief chase, police arrested a 50-year-old man of no-fixed-address.

He faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle, mischief under and over $5,000.

The accused was remanded into custody following a bail hearing on January 1, 2025, in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.
