Busy Barrie road welcomes two-way traffic again

A major artery in the city’s south end has partially reopened.

Between Little Avenue and Big Bay Point Road, Bayview Drive re-opened to two-way traffic as of Wednesday night.

The work, which included a watermain installation, a new storm sewer, crossing culverts, new sidewalks, and asphalt paving of the west lane has been on the city’s bucket list for a few years.

With the west lanes opening to two-way traffic, businesses, school and services along the route will once again have drive-by traffic.

Drivers can expect lane shifts, lane restrictions and reduced lane widths while the work on the east lanes continue.

Regular two-way traffic should begin in November, and the final paving is scheduled for spring 2026.
