How Simcoe Muskoka is cheering on the Jays in the World Series

Toronto Blue Jays hype continues to be felt all across Simcoe County.

Toronto Blue Jays fever is for all appetites these days. Special Blue Jays donuts have been flying off the shelves at the Mariposa Market in Orillia.

“Making lots of Blue Jays donuts with little designs on them. We’re having a good time here. Everyone enjoys it. We’re just having fun,” says Owen Beasley from the bakery.

That fun is being felt across the country. The success of Canada’s baseball team has even caught the attention of non-baseball fans.

“I didn’t watch a game all season, I have to admit, but I haven’t missed one game since the postseason started and it’s just super exciting for Toronto and the whole country,” says Julie Bednarz while walking in downtown Orillia on Monday.

People at the Barrie legion this weekend received a special treat. The man who wrote the iconic ‘OK Blue Jays’ song back in 1982 was on hand where he helped the Pepper Shakers sing the classic to Jays fans.

Many teachers and students are also getting into the World Series. Blue Jays fever is growing by the pitch.

“The whole experience has just brought another level of spirit to the school community. It’s just amazing,” said Blair McDonald, a local teacher, while wearing his favorite Blue Jays jersey.

“They think that they can do it now. They see a pathway that they can accomplish their dream. They see big league dreams and sometimes it seems pretty far off but this way it seems attainable,” says J.J. Rutherford from The Kage in Barrie.

The Kage works with some of the county’s up and coming baseball stars. Lachlan Armour is a 15-year-old with big league dreams.

“It’s actually really inspiring. I’m on the edge of my seat all the time,” said Armour. “You should have seen me when George Springer hit the home run. I was going crazy, so was my family, so were my friends. I mean, we couldn’t stop talking about it.”

The Blue Jays face off against the LA Dodgers in Game 3 of the best-of-seven World Series Monday in Los Angeles.
