Bald tires blamed after vehicle collides with snowbank on Barrie road

City police are reminding drivers to check their tires and adjust to winter conditions after a single-vehicle rollover in Barrie late Thursday morning.

The crash happened just before 11 a.m. on Big Bay Point Road between Ashford Drive and Montgomery Drive.

According to the Barrie Police Service, the driver struck a snowbank. Photos shared by officers over social media show the car resting on its roof along the road.

Investigators say they later discovered the vehicle’s tires had no visible tread, a serious safety concern, especially during snowy conditions.

No injuries were reported.

Police are using this incident as a reminder for drivers to ensure their vehicles are properly equipped for winter driving.

According to the Motor Vehicle Tire Safety Regulations on the Ontario Government’s website, all tires must meet specific safety standards, worn or bald tires will reduce traction on snow and ice, increasing the risk of losing control.
