Asphalt removal and replacement work on bumpy Barrie road underway

Crews are working to remove and replace asphalt along a bumpy stretch of road in Barrie.

The City says Mary Street roadwork is underway from Ross Street to Dunlop Street. Roughly 200-metres of road will be replaced, meaning temporary roadside parking restrictions.

The work is part of a broader project to upgrade the road, which the City says is in poor condition and “approaching the end of its useful life.”

Mary Street had previously been identified for full right-of-way reconstruction, which includes sanitary/storm/water mains and services, road base, asphalt, curb and sidewalk.

The asphalt work is expected to wrap up by the end of the week, with future upgrades anticipated to be completed in 2029.
