Alleged impaired passed out at the wheel, blows three times legal limit

Barrie police say what started as an interaction at a golf course turned into a long night for one Barrie driver.

Police say a driver failed a breath test and presented three times over the legal blood alcohol limit.

On Monday officers say they removed a man from a golf course after staff had called and warned Barrie police that he may be intoxicated.

Later that day, police claim a driver was observed passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle in the area of Big Bay Point Road and Fairview Road.

Police say it was the same man they had removed from the golf course earlier.

Around 10:40 pm. on the same day, police got a call for the same vehicle that had stopped in the middle of the road with obvious signs of damage.

While driving around other motorists tried to get the man’s attention, but to no avail, according to police.

When police followed up on the call, they found the man in his vehicle in a parking lot in the area of Big Bay Point Road and Leggott Avenue.

Police then conducted a traffic stop, during which the man is alleged to have displayed obvious signs of impairment.

According to police, the man failed a breath test and was then arrested for impaired operation and then transported to Barrie Police headquarters, where he underwent another test conducted by a breath technician.

The result of that test, police say, showed the man as three times over the legal alcohol limit.

A 51-year-old Barrie man now faces a charge of impaired operation. His licence has been suspended and his vehicle impounded.
