RCMP arrest 3 people, seize guns, drugs in P.E.I.

Prince Edward Island’s Provincial Joint Enforcement Team (JET) charged three people after a coordinated operation resulted in three arrests and the seizure of drugs and firearms on Thursday, said an RCMP news release.

Police arrested a man at a gas station in Cornwall while officers simultaneously executed search warrants at two properties at approximately 12 p.m.; one on Sailors Hope Road in Souris and one on Harold Court Road in Cornwall, said the release.

Police seized drugs, including:

• cocaine – 269.6 grams
• crack cocaine – 53.6 grams
• oxycodone – 101 pills

Multiple firearms and prohibited magazines were also seized, including:

• Kodiak Mfg. Co. WK180C carbine style rifle
• Remington Arms Co., Inc. 812 12 gauge / sawed-off
• Remington Arms Co., Inc. MAGNUM 12 gauge 
• conducted energy weapon (taser)

Three people face a total of 34 charges.

Gerard Michael Blaisdell is charged with:

• improper storage of firearms for allegedly storing an assault-style rifle and tactical shotgun without rendering them inoperable
• carrying weapons dangerous to the public peace for allegedly carrying a sawed-off shotgun, handheld Taser, assault‑style carbine rifle and tactical shotgun in a manner dangerous to the public
• possession of prohibited weapons for allegedly carrying Taser, shotgun, assault style carbine rifle and high-capacity magazines for rifles and pistols without the required licence

Russell Dale Clark and Melanie Dawn Sheehan are each charged with nine firearms-related offences including:

• unsafe storage of firearms for allegedly storing a tactical shotgun and an assault‑style carbine rifle unsafely, contrary to federal regulations
• carrying weapons dangerous to the public peace for allegedly carrying a tactical shotgun and an assault‑style carbine rifle in a manner dangerous to the public
• possession of prohibited firearms and devices for allegedly possessing an assault‑style carbine rifle, prohibited rifle magazines exceeding five rounds and a prohibited pistol magazine exceeding ten rounds without proper licencing.

Blaisdell, Clark, and Sheehan are all also charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and oxycodone.

All three appeared in provincial court on Friday. Blaisdell was remanded into custody and Sheehan and Clark were released on conditions.

All three will appear again on Monday.

“The dangerous weapons seized in this investigation highlight the serious risks tied to the drug trade in Prince Edward Island,” said Chief Superintendent Kevin Lewis, P.E.I. RCMP’s Commanding Officer in a news release. “Operations like this show the strength of a joint enforcement approach, where sharing resources and expertise allows us to take on complex investigations—including coordinating simultaneous arrests across the province.”

JET is a police unit comprised of officers from P.E.I. RCMP, RCMP Eastern Region Federal Policing, Summerside Police Services and Kensington Police Services.
