The Prince Edward Island RCMP is warning the public about a scam that sends taxis to victims’ homes. Police say fraudsters have targeted people who have already provided gift card information by arranging for taxis to pick them up and take them to buy additional gift cards to continue the scam. “At this time, police are not aware of any victims who got into the taxis or purchased additional gift cards as a result of these incidents,” an RCMP news release reads. “Being the victim of a fraud can be embarrassing, but it is important to know that you are not alone. Anyone can become a target of a scam.” Police advise people to be cautious of anyone who requests payments through gift cards or other unusual methods. Anyone who believes they were the victim of a fraud is asked to contact their local police. For more P.E.I. news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
