The Prince Edward Island RCMP’s emergency response team used tear gas to arrest an armed man barricaded in a home on Friday. An RCMP member reported that the man pointed what was believed to be a handgun at them before barricaded himself in his residence with a woman in western P.E.I. around 8:30 p.m. “An RCMP Crisis Negotiation Team was called in and despite several hours and repeated requests for the individuals to exit the residence, they refused,” an RCMP news release reads. “Prince District RCMP obtained an entry warrant, and the RCMP ERT team was then called in.” The officers deployed the tear gas and arrested the two people without further incident. The unnamed 53-year-old man from Summerside was charged with pointing a firearm and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace. He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday. The unnamed woman was charged with obstructing a police officer and was later released. “Given the location of the residence, there was no broader danger to the public during this incident,” the release reads.
