The Prince Edward Island government is offering up to $20,000 to people trying to get pregnant. The new Fertility Treatment Funding program will give the financial benefit to people to cover fertility treatment expenses, regardless of their household income. The previous program placed funding limits and income thresholds on its services, according to a news release from the government. “Fertility treatment doesn’t always follow a set timeline, and our program should reflect that. We heard that applicants need more flexibility when accessing support,” said Minister of Health and Wellness Cory Deagle in the release. “These changes respond to that feedback and give people more choice in how and when they use the funding.” Expenses covered by the program include in vitro fertilization, intrauterine insemination, initial consultation fees and prescribed medications. The program does not cover storage of eggs or sperm, travel accommodations, treatments outside of Canada and reversal of vasectomies or tubal ligations. The government says its 2026 budget includes an additional $705,000 to enhance the program. According to Fertility Matters Canada and Conceive Health, P.E.I. is the only Canadian province without a fertility clinic. For more P.E.I. news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
