Abandoned building goes up in flames in Miscouche, P.E.I.

An abandoned building in Miscouche, P.E.I., went up in flames early Sunday morning.

The Miscouche Fire Department said firefighters were called around 4 a.m. to a fire at 28853 Route 2. Firefighters from the Wellington Fire Department were also called to help.

“Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the single-storey abandoned building,” said a news release Sunday.

“Firefighters quickly initiated an exterior attack due to the unsafe condition of the structure.”

The fire was brought under control shortly after crews arrived on scene.

Officials said there were no injuries reported, and the structure sustained extensive damage.

“The Miscouche Fire Department thanks local residents for their cooperation and reminds the public to report any suspicious activity around abandoned buildings to local authorities,” said the news release.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
