Lockdown at three P.E.I. health sites lifted, man charged with uttering threats

A code silver at three medical facilities in eastern Prince Edward Island has ended and a man has been charged with uttering threats.

The code was activated at Kings County Memorial Hospital, Montague Health Centre and Bailey Drive Health Clinic – all in Montague – around noon Thursday.

Code silver means there is “a threat to person and facility.”

Kings District RCMP says the threats investigation originated out of Charlottetown.

All the sites were lockdown until just before 12:30 p.m.

The RCMP says it responded to the hospital and soon learned the accused was taken into custody in Charlottetown.

The Charlottetown Police Services says they received a report of a threat made by phone to a health-care professional in Kings County around 9:45 a.m. Roughly 90 minutes later police found and arrested the accused without incident.

“He remains in our custody and the incident remains under investigation,” a news release reads. “This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.”

Police say a 50-year-old man was charged with uttering threats and breach of probation. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Health PEI has thanked law enforcement, staff, and the public for their cooperation during the incident.
