Woman facing charges after driving stolen struck into monument: Truro police

A 36-year-old woman is facing charges after an incident involving a stolen truck in Truro, N.S., Friday afternoon.

Police say a woman stole a pickup truck that had been parked at the Nova Scotia Community College Truro Campus around 12:40 p.m.

The truck operator reportedly saw the woman driving away from the college towards Arthur Street.

The man chased after the truck and waved down another vehicle.

They followed the truck to the intersection of Arthur Street and Young Street where the truck was stopped in traffic.

The truck operator tried to open the door of the truck, but police say the suspect turned hard to the right and sped away.

The woman allegedly drove across the sidewalk and into a stone monument where it got stuck on top of.

The truck operator and two witnesses held the suspect until police arrived.

Police say they have dash camera video of the incident and are asking the public for any other footage of the incident.

The woman is facing the following charges:

• theft of a motor vehicle
• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• possession of stolen property
• obstructing a police officer
