Nova Scotia is seeking names for its 4 new helicopters

If you’ve been sitting on a great name for a helicopter, now is your moment to shine.

Nova Scotia is fielding name suggestions for its four new helicopters that will fight wildfires and support other operations.

“Since we’re replacing the fleet, we’re inviting Nova Scotians to help name the new aircraft,” said Tory Rushton, minister of Natural Resources, in a news release. “We encourage names that are associated with Nova Scotia in some way so that our helicopters reflect our pride in our province.”

The new helicopters – which are Airbus H-125s – will replace the current fleet that was purchased in 2016. The new models will be delivered this year and in 2026.

The province will choose 10 names as finalists and then the public can vote for their four favourites on the Government of Nova Scotia’s Facebook page.

The deadline to submit appellations for the choppers is June 27.
