Mike Smith, known for his acting role as ‘Bubbles’ on “Trailer Park Boys,” had his sexual assault case adjourned for one month on Friday. Appearing on his behalf in Dartmouth provincial court, lawyer Allan MacDonald told the judge Smith had brought forward information to prosecutors that “the police are going to need time to investigate.” The case was set for election and plea. MacDonald requested the adjournment until Feb. 26, which the Crown consented to and the judge granted. Speaking to reporters after court, Crown prosecutor Nicole Ford said they’re ready to proceed with the case. “At this point, the Crown is ready to set trial dates if that’s what the defence is seeking to do,” she said. “But the Crown is obviously always open to discussions with counsel.” “What could be anticipated (in February) is, potentially, the accused entering his election and his plea at that time and potential trial dates set if that’s the route that he chooses to go,” said Ford. The single count of sexual assault was laid against Smith last October. Court documents say the alleged sexual assault took place in Dartmouth on Dec. 30, 2017. The documents do not include details of the alleged assault, but show that Smith has been ordered not to communicate with or visit the home, work, or school of the alleged victim. The court has also ordered a publication ban on anything that would identify the complainant. On Nov. 10, Smith’s lawyer Stan MacDonald told reporters “this is an allegation at this point.
