Ontario Provincial Police say a pedestrian has died after being struck by an OC Transpo bus on Highway 417 in Ottawa Wednesday night. According to Ottawa paramedics spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps, the collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the eastbound lanes of the highway near Parkdale Avenue around 8:20 p.m. Deschamps says the man sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. In an update on Thursday morning, Ottawa OPP Const. Michael Fathi said the pedestrian had died. “The highway was closed for several hours for the investigation which involved East Region OPP technical collision investigators and a reconstructionist. No further information will be released,” Fathi wrote in a news release. Highway 417 is open for traffic on Thursday. In a statement to CTV News Ottawa, OC Transpo said it was aware of “an incident involving an out-of-service bus” on Highway 417 Wednesday night. “We are supporting all emergency services who are responding to the scene and will be conducting an investigation,” Joel Lemieux, director of service delivery and rail operations, said. “Our thoughts are with all involved.” The OPP say anyone who may have been a witness or who has dashcam footage relevant to the incident is asked to contact Ottawa OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
