RCMP arrested a 37-year-old, New Minas man for property crime offences after seizing items reported stolen while executing a search warrant. Police received a report that a wallet was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in Canaan, N.S., on Monday and learned cards from the wallet were used at local businesses. Officers identified a suspect and vehicle using video surveillance from businesses, said an RCMP news release. Officers searched the New Minas residence on Thursday and seized “numerous items that will advance the investigation,” including other items reported stolen. The suspect was released pending a court appearance. “Reports from the public allowed us to gather the evidence needed for a search warrant for this investigation,” says S/Sgt. Archibald. “When we know where and when property crime offences and suspicious activities are taking place, that knowledge allows us to do proactive patrols, target investigations, and sometimes return recovered property to its owners.” Recovered property has been accounted for by the rightful owners, said the release. The investigation is ongoing and police are trying to identify other people involved.
