Police in Nova Scotia’s Cumberland County are investigating several instances of “intentional damage to critical infrastructure.” The Cumberland County District RCMP says the damage appears to be connected to the theft of copper wire. Police received reports of two thefts on Monday. The first report was a theft of cable from a location near Thomson Road in Wallace Bay, though police did not say how much was stolen from that location. The second report said between 50 and 100 feet of copper wire was stolen from a location near Kolbec Road in Kolbec. On Tuesday, police say they learned of damage to cables off Hansford Road in Hansford. “It appeared that the lines were cut but not stolen,” read a news release from the RCMP Thursday. Police say property crime associated to critical infrastructure like power and power lines can often cause power outages or disruptions to internet and phone services, adding there were service disruptions related to all three incidents.
