Nova Scotia using U.S. alcohol sales to give $5.3 million to food programs

The Nova Scotia government is using the sales of United States alcohol to give $5.3 million to food relief programs across the province.

Last November, the government said it would sell off its remaining U.S. alcohol inventory and send the net proceeds to community food groups. They initially expected to send $4 million to those organizations.

“With this funding, we can reach more people, strengthen collaboration and stay focused on supporting those in need,” said Ken Cleveland, president of the Acts of Kindness Society in Yarmouth.

The province says the money will go to 315 non-profits and charities thar run food programs.
