The federal government has announced nearly $2 million will be used to help prevent gun and gang violence in Halifax. Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree says the money will directly support the community though the Building Safer Communities Fund (BSCF). The fund supports local initiatives that address the root causes of gun and gang violence, strengthen community connections and work to make communities safer. “Today’s investment will help community organizations in Halifax continue to provide vulnerable young people with safe spaces, trusted support networks, and positive opportunities to reach their full potential,” Anandasangaree said in a release. “By addressing the root causes of crime and supporting prevention efforts at the local level, we are helping youth build brighter futures while creating safer, stronger communities for everyone.” Ottawa announced renewed support for the BSCF back in March, with a commitment of $157.5 million over the next three years.
