Emergency crews rescued two people and a dog near Cape Split, N.S.

Emergency crews were dispatched for a rescue after two people and a dog got stuck in the Amethyst Cove area near Cape Split, N.S., on Thursday.

RCMP contacted the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) and a helicopter was dispatched from Greenwood at around 7 p.m. to rescue the pair and the dog as rough terrain and heavy, packed snow made a vehicle or rope rescue unwise.

JRCC said the hikers indicated they were injured and frostbite was setting in.

The hikers and dog were hoisted into the helicopter and transferred to an ambulance that took the pair to the hospital.

Multiple agencies took part in the rescue operation.
