Hundreds of people showed up Saturday for Bricksplosion at the Dalhousie Student Union. The event organized by the Maritime Lego User Group included about 50 vendors and 100 brick artists showing off their builds. “The popularity of Lego today is amazing,” said organizer Shawn McLeod. “The quality of the product has latest for so long and the fact that they still work with one another from 50 years ago to today. It makes it a special thing for multiple generations.” McLeod says a brick artist is someone who has taken Lego building to the next level. “You can build a kit from a box, or you can take that kit and smash it up and build something new. You can tell a story and bring it to the next level.” Brick artists Donald and Mirelle Fiset decided to show off their build at the event. Donald said he started collecting Lego as a young child. “I always loved Lego. During COVID I decided to order a special set just for her (Mirelle) and got her hooked. So now we use it as a way to connect and as mental therapy after a hard day of work.” “It helps us bring out our creativity because we want to bring something here that is more or less original,” said Mirelle. “It sparks our imagination.” IN PICTURES: Bricksplosion 2026 McLeod says the appeal of Lego is that it sparks joy and play in everyone. “I think that works for anybody. It works for a kid after school or a two-year-old. You’re just zoning out and having fun and being joyful and creative.” For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
