Health home opening in New Glasgow, N.S., this fall

A health home that will train physicians while also providing care for residents will open in New Glasgow, N.S., this fall.

The Pictou County Collaborative Learning and Health Home Centre will open at 609 Westville Rd., according to a news release from the province. It will feature space for the expanded Westville Medical Clinic and a learning hub for doctors, nurses, dietitians and more.

“This health home is unlike any other in the province. It will actively train doctors, nurses and other primary healthcare clinicians and staff, while providing residents with better access to primary care,” said Premier Tim Houston in the release. “Expanding training capacity for primary care providers is critical to the long-term success of our healthcare system.”

The province says the expanded Westville Medical Clinic will take roughly 3,000 Nova Scotians off the Need a Family Practice Registry.

There are already 115 health home across Nova Scotia.
