Halifax’s Macdonald Bridge closed to vehicles for second weekend in a row

The Macdonald Bridge in Halifax will be closed this weekend.

For the second weekend in a row, the Macdonald Bridge in Halifax will be closed to vehicles as crews continue work to extend the life of the structure.

Halifax Harbour Bridges says the bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7 p.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Monday. It will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists.

“Users are urged to exercise caution and obey all directions from traffic control,” a news release reads. “Cyclists must walk their bicycles in the area of the pedestrian tunnel, near the Dartmouth tower.”

The work is part of Project LifeSpan, a two-year, $70-million effort that will strip the paint from the bridge’s towers to allow for inspection and repairs.

The Dartmouth Tower is set to be finished later this year while the Halifax Tower is slated to be done in 2026.
