The Halifax Stanfield International Airport saw nearly four million passengers in 2024, which nearly reached pre-pandemic numbers. The airport says 3,979,785 passengers journeyed to and from Halifax last year, which represented a 11.2 per cent increase over 3.57 million passengers in 2023. The number failed to reach the more than four million passengers the airport saw in 2017, 2018 and 2019, but they expect to hit that goal in 2025. “A growing number of travellers are choosing Halifax as their gateway, thanks to the variety of air services offered by our airline partners and the high-quality customer experience our airport is known for,” said Marie Manning, vice president of business development and chief commercial officer with the Halifax International Airport Authority, in a news release. The airport has bounced back from the doldrums of the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw roughly 995,000 passengers in 2020 and a little more than one million in 2021, according to previous releases. The Halifax airport will have twice-weekly flights to and from Zurich this summer through Edelweiss while Discover Airlines will offer six weekly flights to Frankfurt. The release says the airport contributes $4.2 billion to the provincial economy annually. Last month the Charlottetown Airport Authority said more than 410,000 passengers went through the P.E.I. airport in 2024, generating more than $366 million in total economic impact for the province.
