‘Get your butt to Halifax’: SailGP hosts waterfront launch event

Tickets for the SailGP event in Halifax next year are now on sale.

Halifax is set to host the seventh stop of the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship and tickets are now on sale for the event.

The Canada Sail Grand Prix will see 13 teams race in the Halifax Harbour, each in an identical 50-foot foiling catamaran.

“The Rolex SailGP Championship will provide Canadian racing fans with a front-row seat to speed and innovation as it redefines the sport of sailing for generations to come,” reads a news release from SailGP.

“Halifax will serve as the ultimate on-water arena, turning the Americas swing of the championship into a rallying cry of pride and excitement as fans cheer on the host nation’s NorthStar SailGP Team.”

Halifax Mayor Andy Filmore addressed the crowd at a launch event on the Halifax waterfront Thursday.

“(In 2024) we had a record-breaking audience on the shore, record-breaking audiences watching from their boats, the city was abuzz, it was an incredible place to be and we’re ready to do it all again, and we’re ready to do it bigger and better in 2026,” said Fillmore.

“Book your hotel, get your flight, and get your butt to Halifax for SailGP 2026.”

Athletes from Canada’s NorthStar SailGP Team were also on hand at the launch event.

“We’re looking forward to coming here next June and standing on the top step of the podium and celebrating NorthStar Sail GP right here in Halifax,” said Billy Gooderham, Canada’s NorthStar SailGP Team Flight Controller.

“Luckily enough, the guy who ended up on the top of the heat last time here now drives for us, so we’re going to be looking to repeat that win that he did here last year.”

The seventh stop of the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship will take place in Halifax from June 20 to 21, 2026.
