Dozens of people from across Canada and the United States have gathered in Halifax to catch up, share stores, and, most importantly, rug hook. The Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia is hosting its annual workshop week at Mount Saint Vincent University. The event has attracted roughly 160 people from around North America. “Most of it is about friendship and communication and rekindling relationships and laughing,” said Linda Alderdice, chair of the rug school. “We also learn. It is artwork. We have evolved to what we call wall art. “A lot of people today will create their own designs rather than going out and buying something. In the Maritimes rug hooking is booming.” Many participants’ works will be on display at an open house event in the Rosaria Building at the university from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
