Anybody looking for a new furry friend will receive a discount if they adopt an adult pet from any Nova Scotia SPCA Saturday or Sunday. Hill’s Pet Nutrition is sponsoring up to $200 in fees for prospective pet owners during its adoption weekend. “Monday is National Best Friends Day so we want more people to come and find their BFF, their best furry friend,” says Sarah Lyon, a communications officer with the SPCA. The offer extends for both cats and dogs and it’s perfect for people who don’t want to go through the kitten or puppy phase, Lyon says. “An adult dog is a great companion,” she says. Older animals are less active, depending on their age and breed, says Lyon, so they are well-suited to people looking for a “mellow” pet that’s already house trained. “It’s just a little bit easier and an adult pet still has lots of love to give,” says Lyon. Whatever animal you decide to adopt, Lyon says you should do your research. Normally adopting a dog at the SPCA costs approximately $400 and cats are $300.
