N.S. man accused of breaking into home, taking guns, firing shots at another residence

RCMP charged a 23-year-old man after shots were fired at a residence in Digby, N.S., Sunday.

Police responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence on West Street around 2:20 a.m., said a news release. Officers learned a man had allegedly entered the home and damaged a locked cabinet to remove guns and ammunition.

Upon arrival, officers observed a man inside the residence and directed him to exit. He was arrested outside the home. There was no one else inside at the time.

Police learned the man allegedly used one of firearms to shoot at another nearby residence causing damage to the house. No injuries were reported. Police said they believe the shots were targeted at the specific residence.

Dallas Troy Doucette of Havelock is charged with more than 20 offences, including:

• two counts of discharging firearm – recklessness
• two counts break and enter
• possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
• four counts failure to comply with probation order
• failure to comply with release order

Doucette appeared in Digby provincial court Monday and remains in custody.

Investigators said they followed up with residents in the area for further evidence regarding the incident.
