Dartmouth-area Halifax Water customers remain under mandatory water restrictions

Halifax Water customers in the Dartmouth area will remain under mandatory water conservation restrictions due to ongoing dry conditions.

Since the mandatory Stage 1 water restrictions were implemented for the Lake Major supply area on Sept. 10, Halifax Water said they have seen a nine per cent decline in overall consumption.

“As these dry conditions persist and with little rain in the forecast, all residents and businesses supplied by the Lake Major Water Supply Plant must follow mandatory Stage 1 water conservation measures until further notice,” said a news release from Halifax Water.

This impacts water service for the communities of Dartmouth, Burnside, Cole Harbour, Westphal, North Preston and Eastern Passage. An interactive map of the locations can be found on Halifax Water’s website.

The utility says the following activities are prohibited by all residents and businesses supplied by Lake Major:

• watering lawns, ornamental gardens/trees
• washing vehicles
• filling hot tubs
• watering golf courses
• Bulk Fill Stations serviced by Lake Major will be closed

Halifax Water says failure to adhere to these measures may result in a warning, a non-compliance fine, or suspension of service.

Halifax Water customers serviced by Pockwock Lake remain under voluntary conservation measures.
