Creed to hit the stage in Halifax Saturday for final show of their tour

Rock band Creed is bringing its reunion tour to Halifax this weekend.

Creed made their mark on the rock scene in the late 1990s with songs like Higher, With Arms Wide Open and One Last Breath.

The American rock band later split up in 2004 but after a 12-year hiatus they reunited in July 2023.

The original members announced tours for 2024 and 2025.

Their 2025 North American tour titled “Return of the Summer of ’99” kicked off at the beginning of July and is set to hit the stage for their last show in Halifax on Aug. 30.

“At this point I think we’ve all seen that it’s bigger than it’s ever been, even back when we were all over the radio,” the band’s guitarist and founding member Mark Tremonti told CTV Atlantic’s Katie Kelly.

Although time has passed, the band member said being on stage together feels just like old times.

“It’s like riding a bike,” Tremonti said. “We still feel like we’re in the college days when were on stage.”

Creed’s resurgence of music online has also created a whole new fan base, one much younger than the band expected.

“We expected to see a lot of people in their 40s and 50s and 60s coming out that were fans of the band in the original days,” said Tremonti. “But most of these fans that come out to the shows are the next generation.”

The band is also amazed by the connection they’ve seen with the audience.

“When we play these songs now, it means so much more to us because these songs mean so much to them,” he said.

Tremonti’s solo career has seen success as well, including a Frank Sinatra album that raises funds for down syndrome, inspired by his daughter.

“When my daughter was born with down syndrome and we started this project, it feels like my whole life was meant to do this,” the guitarist said.

The band said they’ve received good reviews from the show so far and that Halifax is in for a good time.

“These crowds have been absolutely insane on this tour so its going to be a good energetic night,” Tremonti said.

Creed’s concert starts at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at Citadel Hill with Daughtry and Mammoth as opening acts.
