A woman’s arrest and injury in Edmundston, N.B., earlier this year is now being investigated by the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT). The police watchdog says members of the Edmundston Police Force responded to a disturbance at a local hotel on Feb. 19. A woman was found at the bar and arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act. SiRT says the woman was put in handcuffs and taken to the police station. Early the next day, an ambulance was called to assess the woman in a cell. The woman reportedly complained of pain in her arm, but they were “unable to assess her.” SiRT says the woman went to hospital after she was released from custody and she was diagnosed with an arm fracture. “SiRT received a referral from EPF on July 9, 2026, after they were made aware of the seriousness of the injury. SiRT commenced its investigation following the referral,” reads a news release from the team.
