Woman charged following stabbing of Saint John police officer

A Saint John, N.B., police officer is recovering from a stabbing on Monday night.

A Saint John Police Force officer is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries after a stabbing at a business Monday night.

Officers responded to a reported disturbance at a Galbraith Place-area business around 8:50 p.m. They found the suspect at another nearby business, according to a news release from police.

The 30-year-old female suspect allegedly stabbed an officer after police tried to converse with her.

The female was taken into custody and appeared in court Tuesday.

She was charged with the following:

• assaulting a police officer
• obstruction
• causing a disturbance

The 30-year-old was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday for a bail hearing.

The injured officer went to hospital and was later released.

There were no other reported injuries.
