Saint John police arrest 2 men, seize knives and shotgun ammo

Two men in their 50s are facing drug trafficking charges after Saint John police seized substances believed to be cocaine and crack cocaine on Wednesday.

Officers arrested a 54-year-old man and a 56-year-old man from a vehicle around noon and then searched them, the vehicle and a Queen Street residence. They say they seized:

• 123 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine
• one gram of a substance believed to be crack cocaine
• baton and knives
• two boxes of shotgun ammunition
• electronic money counters
• a cellphone
• digital scales
• $3,108 in Canadian currency

Police say the street value of the seized drugs is roughly $12,400

The unnamed 56-year-old man was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000 and possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, according to police. He was held on remand and is scheduled to have a bail hearing on Monday.

The unnamed 54-year-old man was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000. He was released and is scheduled to return to court on May 28.
