New project set to create 8 new supportive housing units in Moncton

A new project will bring eight new supportive housing units and services for people experiencing homelessness in Moncton.

The project is located on Botsford Street in the city’s downtown and is a partnership through the New Brunswick Housing Corporation, the Department of Social Development, and Alternative Residences Alternatives Inc. - a non-profit which provides housing and support services for people with mental illness and experiencing homelessness.

“We know the Moncton region feels the impacts of homelessness on a daily basis,” said David Hickey, minister responsible for the housing corporation and chair of a ministerial task force on homelessness, in a news release.

“That’s why we’ve invested $500,000 in this project to help Alternative Residences Alternatives acquire the property and create eight new permanent supportive housing units for people in need. This funding will help the new residents move towards a better future and deliver more results for this community.”

The New Brunswick Housing Corporation received $7.4 million in emergency funding in September 2025 for supportive housing projects for people leaving chronic homelessness and moving towards more permanent housing which has been used for the Botsford Street project.

That funding has also been used by the corporation to create:

• 27 units at Forest Hill Road in Fredericton
• 40 units at the former Smurfit Stone mill site in Bathurst
• 12 units at Alternative Residences Alternatives project in Salisbury
• 14 units at the former site of the Go Motel in Moncton

The New Brunswick Government says 49 other supportive housing units through that funding are still in development.

The Botsford Street units are expected to be ready for tenants by October.
