The New Brunswick government is spending $4 million to replace an 89-year-old bridge in Sunbury-York South. The Beaver Dam Bridge, which was built in 1937, was reduced to a single lane of traffic in 2021 and it’s been deemed to be reaching the end of its useful life. The new bridge will restore the original two lanes of traffic, according to a news release from the province. “Replacing it is important for the area, and many people travel through Beaver Dam on Route 101 when travelling to Fredericton and Saint John,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Chuck Chiasson in the release. Work on a detour in the area will happen this summer. Traffic will be rerouted to a temporary bridge starting in September. The original bridge is expected to be demolished this fall.
