Here’s how much rain hit Edmonton in July

The heavy rainfall is unlike anything the city has had before, but how hard has it been to manage? Craig Bonneville with Epcor water service explains.

It’s been a record-setting summer for rainfall in Edmonton.

July 2026 will end up just short of the all-time monthly record, with 265 millimetres of rain. That makes this month the second-wettest July on record, behind 1901’s 283 millimetres.

Here’s another way to look at this month’s rainfall. Average rainfall for July in Edmonton is 83 millimetres. The past five Julys COMBINED had roughly the same amount of rain as this past month.

All this rain in July comes on the heels of the wettest June on record for Edmonton.

In fact, the top three wettest months for Edmonton are:

July 1901 - 283 millimetres

June 2026 - 271 millimetres

July 2026 - 265 millimetres

When you combine June and July, it’s already Edmonton’s wettest summer on record and we’re not even into August. (Note - the following graphic includes rainfall totals for June, July and August. The previous wettest June/July was 1901 - 309 millimetres.)

Here’s what’s even more eye-popping: June and July of 2026 have had more than 100 millimetres more precipitation than the average annual precipitation total, which is 423 millimetres.

So it’s probably no surprise that with five months left in the year, 2026 is already in third place for years with the most precipitation.
